Short Story

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. – Aesop

Hey everyone! My name is Shamouy, I’m 23 years old and I live in Jamaica. Today, I’m fundraising to fund my dream of owning a company that not only will improve my life and my family’s but also start the journey of improving the employment rate of my country.

Here’s a little about me and how I got here: It has always been my dream of becoming a midwife and an entrepreneur to better the lives of my family and my country. Just recently, in November, I graduated from the University of Technology, Jamaica with an Upper Second Class Honours in Bachelor of Science in Midwifery.  Right now, I could be like most of my batch mates and leave Jamaica for greener pastures overseas, but I do not want to leave. I want to stay and help improve my country’s employment rate one company at a time – this start-up being the first one.

As mentioned before, I’ve always had a passion for business since I can remember, especially since my father is a small business owner himself. One of my favourite past times is having in-depth business conversations with him about a new book or article I’ve read in business and/or marketing. Due to this passion that I have for business, I’ve owned two businesses, one at the age of 19 and the other at 20. However, I had to give them up during my 3rd year of University because I couldn’t balance both business and my midwifery practicums.

I truly believe that one of my life’s purposes is to help improve the employment rate in my country and to inspire others to do the same. We have a saying in Jamaica that goes, “We Likkle But We Tallah,” which translates – we might be small, but we are a force to be reckoned with, and I believe the same for myself. I believe that with God as my guide, I must seek the best because with Him all things are possible.

Therefore, today, I’m asking if you have gotten this far with my story to take a chance on me. You may not have heard of me yet, but I am determined to make this work, not only for myself but for my family, for everyone who believes in me, and for my country. If there is one thing I know for sure, it’s that being an entrepreneur is one of my life’s purposes and where I thrive.

My funding goal is to raise 50,000 USD. Every dollar raised in this campaign would go towards establishing my dream of owning a vehicle storage company, and I hope you all would be my catalyst to achieve this dream.

The funds raised in this campaign will be allocated towards the company’s necessities, such as:

  • Property Leasing
  • Insurance
  • Equipment
  • Security Systems
  • Staffing
  • Marketing

If you’ve decided to donate (no matter the amount) to my ambition as a vehicle storage owner, I extend a heartfelt thank-you for your generosity. Not only did you invest in a dream but also in a mission.
