Balla is a teen drama that captures the life of 16-year-old Romello (‘Balla’). It explores the
story of a star footballer who falls madly in love with his schoolteacher; while
highlighting the reality and challenges surrounding high school love, drama, sex, exam
stress and football training. As this interesting plot thickens, it follows Balla and his
school mates from 4th form to graduation, through which it explores a number of critical
themes for youth, most predominant are: sex and sexuality, acceptance, relationships,
family values, deception and rivalry.
This seasonal drama has already gone through 2 seasons of the production, giving a platform to
established and aspiring actors, social media sensations and entertainers to expose their
talents. However, the hooked viewers (locally and internationally) of this intense series have
been anxiously awaiting the release of season 3 of this drama to unfold but the producer,
Fabian Barracks and his production team is experiencing some financial challenges in order to
get the project underway.
You know how talented Jamaicans are, and all this talent and passion for the arts are
sometimes stifled or undermined by the lack of investments and resources from the corporate
bodies. However, we have the power together as a united community to make it possible to
thrive within the arts industry (theater productions in particular). “Every mickle mek a muckle,”
and with every donation, The Barracks Entertainment group will propel one step further into
achieving its goal. The subscriptions of this trending movie is currently at 171,809 subscribers, which alludes to the crave for the content produce and the wide impact it has already been making in such short period.
We cannot underestimate the power of the arts; it has given youth a voice and has helped them
to navigate life’s challenges. In light of this, Balla has been a source of encouragement and
entertainment for youth during COVID-19 while they were on lock-down, it is not just
entertainment, it has many life lessons that continue to promote positive values for young
people. Many youths involved in this production are from the inner-city and are given a platform
to showcase their talent instead of yielding to negative peer pressure. We wish to keep youth
engaged positively and encourage the expression of their talents.
Therefore, the production is asking for the public’s generous support to donate to their
campaign in order to resume the work they’ve started and hope that after contributing
you will also tune in to “Balla- Season 1, 2 & 3” to experience the great work of talented
Jamaican youth under the direction of Barracks Entertainment.
