Good day, my name is Howard Lewin. I have decided to start this fundraiser for my sister Jonoi Lewin to assist her through university in Cuba. From a young age, my sister Jonoi was always kind to people and would help anyone she came across who needed it. As a result of these deeds of kindness, she was recognized and awarded by her church. She was always involved in multiple activities in school and church and hence developed her ability to balance the extracurricular activities and her studies. During her time at school, she participated in multiple activities such as singing in the choir, Spanish club, sign language, Inter-School Christian Fellowship (ISCF), and Key club. She also dedicated much of her time to her church by participating in children’s church, dancing, sign language, drama, praise & worship, choir, and hand mime. Regardless of being involved in so many activities, she obtained 16 subjects in CSEC and CAPE. At the tender age of seven, she expressed her dream to become a doctor to our parents and would remind them constantly as she grew older. In August of 2018, she got the opportunity to study in Cuba to fulfill this dream. In Cuba, she met new people and quickly got involved in school and church activities such as choir, dancing, and chess competitions for her school as before. Over the past years that she has been in Cuba, her family has been her sole support, but this became more challenging with each passing year. After the pandemic began, financing her education increased in difficulty as our mother became unemployed leaving our father to be the sole breadwinner. Due to this sudden change, I’ve been assisting with financing part of her food and boarding expenses every month as best as I can, unfortunately, my support is not enough. Despite these challenges, our family tried to keep her in school but our debts have accumulated, resulting in threats to keep her out of classes until the debt is fully paid. The ultimate goal is to raise US $15,000 or the minimum of US $10,000 by June 31, 2022, to contribute towards her school fee. This matter has become urgent, and we would appreciate your assistance in helping this future doctor continue her studies.
