What is WCOPA

WHAT IS THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF PERFORMING ARTS?
For centuries, there has been an exclusive “Olympics” for athletes. This discriminatory practice is being
corrected for performing artists by the creation of the “World Championships of Performing Arts” (WCOPA),
cited as the one and only “official Talent Olympics” for aspiring performers and entertainers. After 20 years of
incredible growth, it is the only international talent and modeling competition of its kind annually held in or
around “Hollywood”, the entertainment capital of the world! Similar to the Olympics, only invited and
qualified competitors (called Worldstars) represent their countries and compete each year in a fierce
competition for “the gold”!

WHAT are “International Worldstars”?
International Worldstars are those achieving talent and models from around the world that have been
exclusively screened, qualified and invited to represent their countries at the one-and-only, ultimate world
championships for aspiring performers and entertainers:
 JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF PERFORMING ARTS (JWCOPA) For achieving
performers and entertainers ages 5 to 15.
 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF PERFORMING ARTS (WCOPA)
For aspiring performers and entertainers ages 16 and over.

HOW ARE CONTESTANTS SELECTED AND INVITED?
Like the Olympics, the finest aspiring talent and modeling competitors from countries are qualified and invited.
Every contestant attending the World Championships of Performing Arts system is screened, qualified and
selected under specific guidelines established by WCOPA, and executed by Scouts and licensed National
Directors from the invited countries. Contestant-at-large procedures are available where there is no director.

HOW MANY COUNTRIES WILL BE REPRESENTED?
Delegations of outstanding competitors from approximately fifty (50) countries will be represented at both the
Junior World Championships and the World Championships.

WHAT ORGANIZATION BACKS THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS?
WORLDSTARS INTERNATIONAL Inc. organizes and manages the World Championships of Performing
Arts (WCOPA), in concert with the International Selection Committee (ISC), which provides the foundation for
this annual talent competition.

We are proud to announce that Portmore Dance Theatre Company ( a compliment of 16 dancers) has officially been selected to represent Team Jamaica at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2026, scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada at the prestigious Westgate Resort and Casino in July 2026.

WHO IS PDTC?

The Portmore Dance Theatre Company (PDTC), established in January of the year 2002, has been through a great number of transitions to be what it is today. Started out as a dance group, the Portmore Dancers, under the leadership of Mr. Anthony Carson, Mr. Nahjah Campbell and Mr. Floyd Carson, (provided with substantial assistance from Jamaica Cultural Development Commission) has grown to be a well-rounded organization that is mainly focused on cultural welfare, development and awareness. With our collective knowledge we (The Portmore Dancers) began exercising new ways of making a mere dance group into an active cultural group; a group with a more impressive name, one that satisfies our creative culture and artistic abilities; to include not only dance but speech and drama.

Now a household name, PDT has performed in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) festivals over the years, achieving the highest level of awards in all categories; on several occasions we were dubbed group of the year for Portmore and St. Catherine. Achieving those awards gave us the opportunity to travel all over the island and the Caribbean showcasing our culture near and far.

The company, cohesive with young and talented youths from the St. Catherine region has successfully hosted eight Seasons of Dance with the eighth Season keeping outside the City of Portmore for the first time.

ITS MISSION STATEMENT
The Portmore Dance Theatre will provide our target audience with high quality performance filled with energy;
vibrancy and resilience, making the experience outweigh their every expectation.

GOAL & OBJECTIVES & FUTURE PLANS

The Theatre’s goal is that of a multi-faceted success, with our first responsibility is to the preservation and well being of the theatre and members. We aim to be the first and largest dance company to be established in St. Catherine through a high quality mind-set i.e., discipline, determination, fairness, understanding, and generosity between leaders, members and clients.
