Hello everyone, My name is Crystal Mckenzie, and I will be entering my first year at the University of Technology, Jamaica, to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene through their two-year accelerated program. Becoming a dental hygienist has always been my dream, but the reality is that tuition and other expenses are very costly, and I have limited financial support.

I have applied to scholarships, but unfortunately, I have not received any responses. My only option was to apply for a Student Loan through SLB, which may help, but with an estimated tuition cost of JMD $1,088,750 per year (tuition has been said to increase so it may be more). plus instruments (JMD $200K–$500K), school supplies, off-campus rent, and daily expenses, I would still face a heavy financial burden. Because the program is accelerated and fast-paced, maintaining a part-time job while keeping up with studies will be very difficult.

A little about me: after completing sixth form, I took a gap year to work and save towards my education. However, most of my earnings went towards assisting my grandmother with financial needs and covering my own necessities. My grandmother’s income is not enough to support me, and I want to ease that burden from her as well. Despite these challenges, I have always worked hard, taking on different jobs, volunteering at charity and community events, and staying active in giving back wherever I can.

I am now reaching out to ask for your support. No matter how small, every contribution would bring me one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a dental hygienist. Your generosity would not only help me pursue my education but also allow me to continue serving others through this career path.
