Mia and Layla Reid, 12-year-old twin sisters and Olympic hopefuls have been making waves in the competitive swimming world since their introduction to the sport two years ago. Their dedication and talent have quickly set them apart in the sport and earned Mia two meet records for her age group. In 2023, Mia’s exceptional performance earned her a spot on Jamaica’s national swim team for the Goodwill competition. Building on this success, both Mia and Layla have now qualified to represent Jamaica in the prestigious Goodwill Games in August 2024, showcasing their remarkable progress and potential in their short but impressive journey in competitive swimming.
WHY YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED
Jamaica’s swimming athletes often face financial challenges due to a lack of government and corporate support for the sport. As a result, many swimmers must self-fund their participation in overseas competitions. This financial burden includes costs for travel, accommodation, and entry fees, which can be substantial. Despite these challenges, dedicated athletes and their families strive to ensure they can compete internationally, often relying on personal savings, fundraising efforts, and community support to make their dreams a reality.
