My name is Chris Blackman residing in the Caribbean island of St. Vincent and The Grenadines.

I am presently aware of the problems facing cancer children and their parents because of being on the ground and my affiliation with the staff at the Milton Cato Hospital located in Kingstown, St. Vincent.

There is a lack of medical care that are afforded to cancer children because of the lack of funds especially treatment that is very costly amounting in thousands of dollars.

Talking to cancer care takers in St. Vincent and The Grenadines they discussed the hardship they face by having to take their children aboard to get medical attention and advice.

St. Vincent was hit with a double stroke of disaster with the La Soufriere Volcanic Eruption in December,2020 at the same time the world was facing the COVID outbreak. Many homes and business were disrupted. The loss of income and homes hit hard for the cancer children whose families many depend on their agriculture crops and live stocks which was lost by many families because of the volcanic eruption. Many families had to relocate to different areas of the country some even sleeping in shelters.

A solution that I brainstormed and worked out a fair deal with a private airline located in St. Vincent was to offer a discount on air travel to a cancer child and a caretaker roundtrip to Barbados to get pediatricย  ย treatment at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital which offers paediatric care for children from birth to 16 yearsย  with specialized care even for cancer children.

The most common cancer in children are leukemia, lymphoma, and brain cancer. The Queen Elizabeth Hospitalย  is known for offering excellent service for leukemia.

The hospital is located in St. Michael- Bridgetown, Barbados and is a modern facility with 650 beds, an emergency room and four intensive care units. It is also a teaching hospital associated with the University of The West Indies.

Barbados income derives a great portion from tourism which boast approximately 900.000 per year.

Cancer care in countries like St. Vincent and The Grenadines is inferior to the care of developed countries.

Cancer refers to any one of diseases characterized by development of abnormal cells that will divide uncontrollably and have the ability to infiltrate and will destroy normal body tissue. Canccer also has the ability to spread throughout the body.

My goal is to help one family at a time get the support needed in this time of crisis in the cancer child life.

The objective of The Queen Elizabet Hospital is to offer medical care along with medical advice for the care of the child.
