Hi, my name is Madeline, and I’m an ordinary Jamaican citizen trying to help my fellow Jamaicans in great need.

As you may know, Jamaica was ravaged by the most powerful hurricane of the century, Hurricane Melissa. It caused widespread DEVASTATION across the entire island, affecting approximately 500,000 people. I’m pleading for cash donations to assist those who are homeless, displaced, without the means to earn, hungry, sick, and helpless. I’ll be sourcing non-perishable food items, emergency care packages, clean water, and other urgent supplies to donate to a few communities and individuals (including relatives). The plan is to source the supplies locally to get them to the people as quickly as possible.

I’ll be coordinating with local, on-the-ground organisers and hardware/retail stores for purchasing and distribution.

If you are associated with or know of groups/orgs that would want to contribute, please share this appeal with them. On the note of groups and orgs, my 73 year old father was also severely affected. A containing wall next to his house collapsed from a previous hurricane, and the damage quadrupled after Mellissa. I know this will take more time and effort, but I’m putting it out into the universe anyway, as neither the owners nor political representatives have helped. And without urgent intervention, I fear it will become a deadly situation.

The aim is to raise US$2500 within 3 weeks. Donations are welcome afterwards, as recovery will take months, even years.
