In the words of Magic Johnson; “all kids need is a little help, a little hope, and someone who believes in them.” We have hope and we believe in our daughter, so now all we need is a little help.

My name is Jadeene Burnett Registered Nurse and first time mother to 6 months old Jhenesa Didia who has been diagnosed with complex congenital heart defect. She requires multiple surgeries to correct the defects in order to save her life.

At 13 days of life she was admitted to the paediatric unit at Savanna-la-mar Public General Hospital as she was experiencing respiratory distress and heart failure. Her tiny heart was working double time and wasn’t able to adequately perfuse her entire body. As such she was placed on supplemental oxygen to assist in normalizing the process. After a week and a number of medications later, she was referred to the  cardiologist at Bustamante Hospital for Children for further management. The required surgery is not provided locally.

On the 26th May we had to take her to the emergency department as she was again in respiratory distress. Her medications were increased because she was having cardiac failure. Again on June 19, 2021 she was in cardiac failure, her third visit to hospital and it’s the worse she has ever been. Not feeding, very tired and sleepy, low oxygen level and tachycardic (fast heart rate). She needs this surgery and she needs it now.

We have sought hospitals overseas and the cost is US $232,141. This is not a figure we have on hand or can even produce on our own. Hence, we are exploring every avenue to raise this amount. Her need is urgent and we have less than 6 months to present the funds. She is a strong little fighter and deserves a chance at a long healthy life. Without this surgery she doesn’t stand that chance. Her heart will continue to enlarge, her lung function will decrease and heart will eventually fail.
