As the first charitable organisation in Green Town Trelawny, the Green Town Foundation is constantly looking for ways to inspire change and build the next generation of leaders in the community. As a result, we will be hosting a Labour Day Clean-up and Raffle in the community on May 23, 2023. Our aim is to carry out clean-up and beautification exercises (planting trees, paint and provide food for volunteers). The proceeds from the raffle will go towards our fund to build a community centre. However, as a non-profit organization, we heavily depend on sponsors to fund our initiatives and create a difference in people’s lives. For some background, like many communities in rural Jamaica, the infrastructural degradation is rife in Green Town. There is no piped-water, extremely poor cellular phone and internet services, and to make things worse, the community is seeing an uptick in crime and violence. Those issues have led to the breakdown of the community where poverty continues to thrive and employment is low. Those are the same issues which influenced a team of business operators, communications specialists, a soldier, farmers and Jamaicans living in the diaspora to come together and form the foundation. Our aim is help rebuild the community through outreach and activism one initiative at a time. We hope you can help us.
