Hello, my name is Norris Chambers, though most people know me as “Dickie.” My journey has been marked by many setbacks, but my latest ordeal has been the most devastating yet—a fire that nearly took everything from me.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, October 4, 2024, I was jolted awake by the cries of “Fire!” from my neighbors. As I rushed to escape the flames and protect my belongings, I barely managed to save my own life.

The property at 2 East Avenue, Kingston 10, where I lived and ran my upholstery business, was completely destroyed. For over 30 years, I have worked as an upholsterer, and for even longer, I’ve been involved in acting and playwriting. This space was not only my home but also where I poured years of hard work, memories, and dedication. Tragically, everything was lost in the fire—my sewing machines, air compressors, tools, customers’ projects, and even irreplaceable scripts and archives from my theater career. All my personal belongings—furniture, clothing, and appliances—were reduced to ashes.
