Hi there, My name is Deana-Rae Clayton and on June 30, 2019, my life took an unexpected turn in a way I could never imagine. I was involved in a major motor vehicle accident that left not just my friend dead but left me broken physically and mentally. I woke up from a two-day coma on July 2, 2019, with a broken right hip, broken right pelvis, broken left femur, fractured right rib, fractured spine in 3 places, fractured facial bones, lacerated right eyelid, head trauma that resulted in a stroke and immobility. Between July 4, 2019, to July 30, 2020, I have done a total of 4 surgeries in hopes of being fixed to regain some normalcy in this new life, however, the road has been rocky and it has gotten even more unstable.

In the present day, I am known as the British Bionic Babe because the bottom half of my body is metal and the head trauma that resulted in a stroke left a swelling on my brain which is classified as permanent brain damage. This brain damage has altered my Jamaican dialect so I am living with Foreign Accent Syndrome which means I now speak with a British accent, I am also blind in my right eye and my mobility is about 60% with assisted mobility from my wheelchair, crutches, or cane. After 4 surgeries you would think it is recovery time but not quite. I have, so far, 5 confirmed surgeries to complete over the next 1 to 8 months.

  1. I have a 3rd surgery on my left femur because after 2 years it has still not healed and is still very broken. There are 3 pins that hold the metal bar in place, and so my orthopedic surgeon wants to remove 2 of the 3 pins to see if putting weight on the leg will assist the bones in coming together. (See Picture below)
  2. Dental Surgery; There is a hairline fracture in my jawline and because of its presence, the acid from my stomach seeps through and damages my gums and teeth, and causes bad breath. I will need corrective surgery to have that sealed.
  3. Dental surgery; Because of the effects from the stomach acid, I will have to remove, so far, (as this number can increase over time) at least 4 teeth because they are badly damaged, and get dental implants as replacements.
  4. Eyelid Reconstruction; When my accident happened, I was told that my eyeball fell out and in an effort to save it they pushed it back in and stitched down the eye with whatever skin that was left after the laceration. I appreciated the effort but the eye was not saved as I am blind in my right eye but the eyelid can be saved and requires reconstructive surgery.
  5. Full Hip Replacement. Even though there is a chain link in my right hip that holds my hip and pelvis in place, the hip is narrowing which has now caused arthritis but also means that I will need a full hip replacement. (See picture below)

Yes, the road to recovery is slow but sure and I appreciate any assistance and any prayers that you would like to offer on my behalf.
