For more than seven decades, Marjorie Whylie has given her life to music, education and the preservation of Jamaica’s cultural heritage.

From the piano to the hand drum, from the classroom to the stage, Marjorie has helped shape the sound and story of Jamaica. She is a celebrated pianist, percussionist, composer, arranger, educator and musicologist, and served as Musical Director of the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica for more than four decades. Her extraordinary body of work has influenced generations of Jamaican musicians, dancers, educators and cultural practitioners.

But behind the accolades and achievements is an elderly Jamaican woman who simply wants what many of us hope for as we grow older: to remain in the home she loves, surrounded by familiar memories, comfort and dignity.

Today, we are asking Jamaicans at home and in the diaspora, friends of Jamaica, members of the artistic community, and everyone whose life has been touched by Marjorie’s work to come together and help make that possible.
