The Jamaica Music Museum (JaMM) is an essential cultural department within the Institute of Jamaica, operating as an agent of the Ministry of Culture. Serving as the central archive, exhibition space, and research facility dedicated to Jamaica’s rich musical heritage, JaMM preserves and celebrates the vibrant history that has shaped Jamaica’s identity on the global stage.
JaMM is charged with maintaining both temporary and permanent exhibitions that showcase the evolution of Jamaican music—from its African roots to the powerful genres of mento, ska, rocksteady, reggae, dub, and dancehall. The museum collects and preserves invaluable musical and related artifacts, documents the island’s unique musical journey, and disseminates knowledge through cultural celebrations, educational outreach programs, and captivating presentations.
Our university study group is passionately raising awareness and funds to support the Jamaica Music Museum’s mission to nurture and safeguard Jamaica’s heritage and culture. By supporting this fund, you help ensure that the museum can continue its vital work to inspire new generations through the story of Jamaica’s music, a legacy that has profoundly influenced music worldwide.
The new, state-of-the-art JaMM facility will serve as a living monument to Jamaica’s past, present, and future, fostering cultural pride and offering expanded exhibits with pulsating performances and educational experiences. Your contributions will enable the museum to enhance its collections, broaden its outreach, and sustain Jamaica’s position as a global cultural mecca.
Join us in preserving this invaluable cultural treasure and celebrating the enduring spirit of Jamaican music.
