My name is Alvarie Kerr Gordon, and I live in Vineyard Town, Kingston, Jamaica. Today, I am reaching out with a heavy heart on behalf of my neighbour and dear friend, Sophia Francis.
Miss Sophia has been blind due to diabetes and has already been navigating life with tremendous difficulty. But recently, her world was shattered in the worst way imaginable. Her only child, Shaniek, who was living abroad, suddenly became ill and passed away.
As a community, we are standing with Miss Sophia through this heartbreaking time. Our biggest challenge now is raising the necessary funds to bring Shaniek’s body home to Jamaica so she can be laid to rest with dignity, love, and the respect she deserves.
Repatriating a loved one is extremely expensive, and Miss Sophia simply cannot manage this burden alone. That is why we are appealing to everyone—near and far—to be our brother’s and sister’s keeper in this moment of great need.
